Statuses

Couriers report dozens of status codes, each in their own words. The customer only needs to know where the parcel is. Shipment Tracking maps every courier status onto one short list, and shows the same wording for every courier.

Status What it means Dot colour
Generated The AWB exists, the courier has not picked up the parcel yet Yellow
Picked up by courier The courier has the parcel Blue
In transit Moving between depots Blue
Arriving today Out for delivery Teal
Ready for pickup Waiting in a locker, parcel shop or pickup point Teal
Delivered The customer has the parcel Green
Delivery issue Refused, failed, damaged, wrong address, lost or delayed Red
Returned to sender The parcel is going back to you Red
Cancelled The AWB was cancelled or deleted Grey
Status unavailable The courier gave nothing the plugin can read Grey

Delivered, Returned to sender and Cancelled are final statuses. Delivered and returned parcels are kept for a week before the courier is asked again.

Most couriers send a status code, and each courier integration maps its codes onto the list above.

Some couriers only send free text. For those, the plugin reads the text in English and Romanian, since the Romanian APIs answer in the language of the account. A few rules it follows:

  • “Not delivered” is caught before “delivered”, so it becomes Delivery issue.
  • A parcel delivered to a locker or parcel shop is still waiting for the customer, so it is Ready for pickup.
  • A parcel the customer took out of the locker or shop counts as Delivered.
  • Romanian “out for delivery” texts are read as Arriving today, not as Delivered.

The Overview screen under Shipments has a Needs attention list. It shows parcels with:

  • Delivery issue: “The courier reported a problem”
  • Returned to sender: “Going back to you”
  • Ready for pickup: “Waiting for the customer to pick it up”

Developers can change the customer-facing wording with the brl_st_status_labels filter. The brl_st_status_changed action fires when an order’s shipment status changes.

The free plugin never changes the order status. With Shipment Tracking Pro, you can let the order follow the parcel.

Turn on Change the order status along with the parcel status under Automation & alerts > Orders, then choose:

Setting Default What happens
When the parcel is delivered, set the order to Completed The order moves to this status. Completed sends the customer the usual WooCommerce “order complete” email.
When the parcel is returned, set the order to Returned Returned is an order status the add-on adds, so returns are easy to filter in the orders list.

Each choice can also be Do not change. Every change adds a note to the order.

Other statuses, such as In transit or Delivery issue, do not change the order status. A refused or failed delivery can send you an alert instead. See Alerts.
