Categories
The banner offers up to five categories. The Categories tab shows which ones the banner offers right now: Always on, Asked or Not shown.
| Category | Covers | On the banner |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Cart, checkout, sign-in, security, and remembering the consent choice | Always on, cannot be turned off |
| Analytics | Traffic, viewed products and page performance | Always asked |
| Marketing | Conversions, attribution and advertising audiences | Always asked |
| Preferences | Favourites, language, layout and personal choices | Asked while Preferences category is on |
| External media | Videos, maps, music players and social posts from other sites | Asked while External media category is on |
Preferences and External media are on by default. Turn them off on the Categories tab if your site has nothing in them. You rename every category and its description on the Texts tab.
What each category gates
Section titled “What each category gates”Necessary
Section titled “Necessary”Never held. Put no analytics or advertising service here.
Analytics
Section titled “Analytics”- Google Consent Mode:
analytics_storage. - With Pixel Tracking: GA4, Microsoft Clarity and, if you ask for it, Umami, by default.
- Any script you mark with
data-brl-consent="statistics".
Marketing
Section titled “Marketing”- Google Consent Mode:
ad_storage,ad_user_dataandad_personalization. - With Pixel Tracking: Meta, TikTok, Google Ads, Tag Manager, Microsoft Ads, Pinterest, Snapchat, Reddit, LinkedIn and OpenAI Ads, by default, plus the server events for them.
- WooCommerce order attribution, when Hold WooCommerce order attribution is on.
- Any script you mark with
data-brl-consent="marketing", and any held script or iframe without a category.
Preferences
Section titled “Preferences”- Google Consent Mode:
personalization_storage. - Any script you mark with
data-brl-consent="preferences".
Use it only for real personalisation features, such as a saved wishlist, language or layout. The standard cart belongs to Necessary.
External media
Section titled “External media”- YouTube and Vimeo players, Google Maps, Spotify, SoundCloud, Instagram, X and Facebook embeds, depending on the switches below.
- Any iframe or script you mark with this category.
Embeds
Section titled “Embeds”These switches sit on the Categories tab, under External media category:
- Block YouTube before consent and Block Vimeo before consent: the player shows a placeholder until the visitor allows External media.
- Block maps, music and social posts: Google Maps, Spotify, SoundCloud, Instagram, X and Facebook embeds wait for the same category.
A held embed shows a short note with a button. The button opens the choices, and the embed loads once External media is allowed.
Embeds are caught in post content, widgets and WooCommerce short descriptions, and in embeds WordPress builds from a pasted link.
WooCommerce order attribution
Section titled “WooCommerce order attribution”Hold WooCommerce order attribution shows only when WooCommerce is active. With it on, the sbjs_ cookies WooCommerce uses to record where a buyer came from wait for Marketing.
WooCommerce still records the source for buyers who said yes. For the others, the order shows no source. Since version 1.8.2 it also waits for the answer in Opt-out and Notice mode, so Necessary only stops it there too. It keeps working on cached pages.
How other plugins see the categories
Section titled “How other plugins see the categories”Other plugins read the categories through the WP Consent API bridge or through the filters in Blocking scripts. Pixel Tracking reads them on its own and offers them in its Consent category selects.
