The banner
The banner has three parts:
- The banner itself: a title, a short description, a link to your privacy policy, and the buttons Accept all, Necessary only and Customise.
- The preferences window, opened with Customise: one row per category, each with its own toggle, and Save preferences.
- The reopen button: a small button on every page that opens the choices again.
These are the default English texts. You change all of them on the Texts tab.
Behaviour
Section titled “Behaviour”The Behaviour tab, panel Engine and behaviour:
- Show the consent banner: the master switch. While it is off the banner never shows. Nothing is granted: plugins that ask for consent fall back to their own default, which for Pixel Tracking is to hold the tags.
- Default behaviour:
- Opt-in: nothing that needs consent runs until the visitor says yes. The only mode that counts as consent in the EU.
- Opt-out: tracking runs until the visitor refuses.
- Notice only: the banner informs, and everything runs.
- Cookie lifetime (days): how long the answer is remembered. Default 180. After that, the banner asks again.
- Policy version: raise it after you add a new tool or change how data is used, and every visitor is asked again.
- Reload after the choice changes: for third-party scripts that cannot be stopped without a reload.
- Hide from administrators and Hide from bots: both on by default. Search engines see the page without the banner over it.
The Google Consent Mode, Global Privacy Control and WP Consent API settings on the same tab are covered in Google Consent Mode v2.
Buttons
Section titled “Buttons”The Banner tab, panel Banner and controls:
- Necessary only button: the refuse button, next to accept. EU regulators expect it on the first screen.
- Customise button: opens the list of categories.
- Persistent reopen button: the small button that reopens the choices on every page. Withdrawing consent must stay easy.
- Page overlay: dims the page behind the banner.
Design
Section titled “Design”The Design panel on the Banner tab has a Live preview on the right. It updates before you save, and switches between Banner, Preferences and Reopen.
Layout and position:
- Layout: Bar (across the page) or Popup (a box, always in the middle).
- Position: Bottom, Top or Centre, for the bar.
- Reopen button style: Cookie icon or Text button.
- Reopen button side: Left or Right.
- Show the reopen button: Always, Only at the end of the page, or Always on desktop, at the end of the page on mobile (the default). On phones, waiting for the end of the page keeps it from covering a buy button.
Colours:
- Panel background: the banner and the preferences window.
- Body text: headings, category names and the labels that matter.
- Secondary text: descriptions and the “always on” state.
- Accent and call to action: primary buttons, links and focus rings.
- Text on the call to action: the text over accent buttons. Keep it readable.
- Borders: the window outline and the row separators.
- Page overlay: the layer behind the preferences window.
- Toggle when on: the colour of a category the visitor allowed.
Sizes and styles:
- Corner radius: 0 to 40 px. Maximum width: 320 to 1600 px, the widest the bar gets on a large screen.
- Accept button: Filled or Outline. Other buttons: Outline, Filled, light or Text link.
- Button corners: 0 to 30 px. Square at 0, a pill from about 20.
- Text size: 13 to 18 px.
- Category toggles: Square check, Round check or Switch.
- Shadow: None, Soft or Strong.
The Texts tab holds every word the visitor reads.

The admin screens themselves are translated through the usual WordPress language packs; Romanian is included. With Pro, every banner text also becomes a translatable string in WPML and Polylang.
How visitors change their mind
Section titled “How visitors change their mind”The reopen button stays on every page and opens the choices again. You can also put [brl_consent_preferences] anywhere, for example in the footer, to place a button that does the same.
Speed and page cache
Section titled “Speed and page cache”The page is the same for every visitor, so page caches such as LiteSpeed, WP Rocket and Cloudflare can cache it. The visitor’s choice is read and applied in the browser.
The banner is rendered hidden and shown by a small inline script while the page is parsed, so it does not become the element Google measures for Largest Contentful Paint on phones. The plugin’s inline scripts carry data-no-optimize and data-cfasync="false", so LiteSpeed and Cloudflare do not defer them.
