Licence keys

A licence key turns on the Pro features of one plugin, and the updates that come with them. Each key belongs to one plugin and one subscription.

The key is emailed to you as soon as the payment clears, with the key also attached as a .txt file. It is also in your account under Licences: open the row and use Reveal and Copy.

If the account says the key cannot be shown again, use the copy from the email, or regenerate the key (see below).

You activate a key from inside the plugin, on the site you want to license. There is nothing to do in your account first.

  1. In wp-admin, open the plugin’s Licence screen. For Category SEO Editor Pro it is a tab: Products > Category SEO > Licence.

  2. Paste the key into the Licence key field.

  3. Click Activate.

The site contacts brainrune.com, takes one site slot on the key, and the Pro screens turn on. The Licence screen then shows:

  • Status: the state of the licence.
  • Features: on when the Pro features are running.
  • Updates: on when this site receives Pro updates.
  • Valid until: the end of the paid period.

Two buttons appear once the site is licensed: Deactivate this site and Re-check now.

The number of sites depends on the plan you bought. Your account shows it on every licence, for example “1 of 10 domains”. The plugin page on brainrune.com lists the sites per plan in its pricing section.

How sites are counted:

  • www.example.com and example.com are the same site.
  • The scheme, port and path are ignored, so https://example.com/shop counts as example.com.
  • A staging site on its own host name is a separate site and takes its own slot.

When every slot is taken, activating another site fails with “This licence is already active on N site(s). Deactivate one first.”

You can release a site in two places:

  • On the site itself: Deactivate this site on the plugin’s Licence screen.
  • In your account: Licences, open the row, then Deactivate next to the domain.

Pro stops on that site until a key is pasted again.

Use this when a site changes address, for example after a migration.

  1. In your account, open Licences and expand the licence.

  2. Click Move next to the old domain.

  3. Type the new address, for example https://new-site.com, and click Move licence.

  4. On the new site, open the plugin’s Licence screen and click Re-check now, or paste the key and click Activate if the key is not there yet.

The old site is released and the new one takes its slot. On the old site the key stays on file but Pro switches off at its next check.

A licence can be moved 3 times in 30 days. If you need more, write to us from Support.

If a key leaked, use Regenerate key in your account. You get a new key on screen right away.

What happens at the end of a paid period depends on the plan. There are two cases:

  • Features keep running, updates stop. The installed Pro features keep working. Updates and new activations are paused until you renew.
  • Features stop. The Pro screens switch off until you renew. The free plugin and everything you saved stay as they are.

The plugin page on brainrune.com says which applies to each plan. A refunded licence always stops: its key no longer works and the Pro features switch off.

A licence that has ended shows a Renew button in your account. Renewing takes you to the plugin’s page, where a new subscription brings a working key.
